Horribly disappointed - Adoption.com Forums
So I've been trying to find a way to adopt again now that I've found out my State has changed the foster care (and thus "special needs adoption") limits to only four children in the home.
Someone told me I should be able to adopt a child from a disrupted adoption, which would be considered a private adoption and thus wouldn't need to work with those same regulations. Of course, being a private adoption, there are no adoption subsidies or financial help from the State, but that's fine as I want to adopt for the child, not for any other reason!!!
I've been in contact with a family who wants to disrupt their adoption and after sharing about our families with each other, I really want to take in this boy, as does the family.
I contacted the agency that did my last homestudies, this time though the private adoption section, and they told me they would be unwilling to update my homestudy for this situation, saying they are going to go by those foster care guidelines. So frustrating because I've remained in contact with this agency, having worked with them for three seperate adoptions of six kids total since 2004, and even tho updates on the family and kids aren't mandatory (nor even requested) I have always kept them updating on the kids, and have always been in good standing with them.
I contacted several other agencies in my area, one has responded with the same thing, the rest haven't responded at all.
It is so frustrating as this boy's family is trying to do right by finding a home more suited to his needs, and I really think he'd do well here. I am so eager to help! And yet these agencies aren't willing to work with me! I understand that not all families can operate on the level I do (as far as number of kids) but I've proven to them time and again that I CAN, my kids are doing amazingly well, and it apparently means nothing.
Now it looks like I"m out of options in helping this boy and his family.

Less rain for drought-hit crops in midday outlook
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Rain is still forecast for next week in western portions of the drought-stressed U.S. Midwest but in lighter quantities than originally expected, an agricultural meteorologist said on Wednesday.
"The biggest change is less rain in Iowa, northern Missouri, western Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin than earlier runs showed," said Drew Lerner, meteorologist for World Weather Inc.
The worst drought in over half a century is ravaging crops across the U.S. Corn Belt, and precipitation next week will likely offer less relief to already damaged corn and soybean fields than earlier forecasts had projected.
Lerner said the morning weather maps indicated from 1.00 to 2.00 inches of rain possible in that major crop growing area by early next week, but midday maps indicated "no more than 0.25 inch."
"Hot weather will return to that area, too, next week," he said, with highs back to the upper 90s to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (32 to 38 degrees Celsius).
No major changes from the morning forecasts were noted in the rest of the crop belt, with the exception of some heavier rains expected in portions of the far eastern Midwest.
"There is a lot more rain for Kentucky and Tennessee. We now expect 2 to 3 inches there, but that isn't in the major crop area," Lerner said.
Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) soybean futures prices were down nearly 3 percent near midday on the early forecasts for showers. Corn was down over 2 percent.
Prices for both commodities were driven to record highs in July as the drought ate away at prospects for the crops which are planted in the spring and harvested in the autumn.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday rated 24 percent of the corn crop in good-to-excellent condition as of Sunday, and 29 percent of the soybean crop in good-to-excellent shape, both down 2 percentage points from the previous week.
The ratings for each were the worst since the comparable week in 1988, another year of severe drought in the nation's midsection.
The domestic corn crop likely shrunk another 2.5 percent over the past week, but the modest decline suggested damage from drought may be nearing an end, a Reuters poll of analysts showed on Tuesday.

No Open WebOS support for existing WebOS devices, no soup for you
Another day, another major blow to the webOS cimmunity. The Open webOS project announced today in its blog that the fledgling OS won't support any of the existing hardware -- like HP's Pre 3 and TouchPad. While not completely surprising, this is disappointing for those who were hoping to wring a little more life out of their current webOS devices. Open webOS is targeting SoCs that support the Linux 3.3+ kernel and components with open source drivers. The blog post blames the existing hardware's "many proprietary components, including graphics, networking and lack of drivers for a modern kernel". Despite having access to these proprietary drivers, it appears HP isn't willing to make them available to the Open webOS project -- proof that sometimes you can have your cake, as long as you forego eating it.

The UCC National Youth Event included a workshop, titled ?Let?s Talk About Sex,? and a screening later that night of a documentary with the same title, which were meant to help adults communicate positively with teens about human sexuality.? The sessions also explored differences in how teens and parents discuss the topic of sex in the U.S. versus European countries, and were presented by Ann Hanson.
Ann is a sexuality educator and trainer of teachers for the United Church of Christ?s sexuality resources:? Affirming Persons, Saving Lives; Created in God?s Image and Our Whole Lives ? Sexuality and Our Faith and has written numerous articles for United Church of Christ publications and secular websites and publications. Hanson said when she visited Europe and spoke with people there about the effects of sex education, she got a first-hand description of the different attitudes between the two continents. Hanson said one man told her, ?You Americans have such shame about sex.?

Google brings NYC subway alerts to Maps, makes public transit a little more bearable
Google has offered up New York City subway information via Maps for some time now, but as anyone who's navigated the 100-plus-year-old transit system will happily tell / complain to you, such information is only so useful without info on the requisite service changes -- a lot of work goes into maintaining something that old. Google's upping its game by bringing services changes to Maps for Android and its web-based counterpart. Clicking on one of the 468 stations in Maps will bring up relevant maintenance information, as well as step-by-step instructions for navigating around it. Until Boingo rolls out WiFi to more stations, however, you might want to check your status before going underground.
